Full team participation in the 6th Scandalogy conference in Hamburg

On 7-9 May 2026, the EXPOSING team participated with a line of new research on audience engagement in scandal at the Scandalogy conference in Hamburg.
The team contributed to the conference in the following ways:
- Eva Frijns presented the first paper from her PhD dissertation on influencer scandalization, victimhood and outrage in a Nordic welfare context
- Mikkel Bækby Johansen presented a paper, co-authored by Anne Jerslev, on culture war scandals, mapping complexity in the case of former Harvard president Claudine Gay
- Manuel Menke co-organized a panel on “Victimhood in Scandal and Scandalous Victimhood” with Monika Verbalyte
- Anne Jerslev and Nete Nørgaard Kristensen introduced the new concept “scandalization by association” to designate celebrities’ constant risk of being pulled into scandal as a consequence of celebrity culture’s visibility paradigm
