Engaging in training initiatives to reach the young PSM audiences

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperResearchpeer-review

This working paper investigates the motivations behind the new Danish talent development initiative ‘Serieskolen with DR Ultra’ (a collaboration between the publicly funded film workshops, Danish PSB DR’s tween/teen universe DR Ultra, and a recently established Cross-Media School of Children’s Fiction), and evaluations of its first two editions. Serieskolen teaches young talents to develop ideas for television series targeting the 9–14-year-old DR Ultra target audience through a training scheme building on a combination of online masterclasses and on-site bootcamps before an industry pitch to DR and other industry stakeholders. The case study builds on qualitative interviews around the initiative, document analysis, and observations at several of the online masterclasses as well as the final pitch day in March 2024. The research was conducted as part of the research project ‘Reaching Young Audiences: Serial Fiction and Cross-media Storyworlds for Children and Young Audiences’, funded by Independent Research Fond Denmark and based at the University of Copenhagen 2019–2024.
