N2 - The research project The Primacy of Tense – Prior's Now and Then is funded by the Danish Council for Independent Research (full budget approx. DKK 10.5 mio/NZD 2.3 mio). The project runs from October 2016 till October 2019 and joins together research groups from six Danish universities. In the project proposal, three major thematic approaches are outlined:I. The study of Prior's Nachlass in the Bodleian (and elsewhere) and the development of Prior studiesII. The significance of A.N. Prior's ideas in contemporary thoughtIII. The influence of Prior's work on logic itself and especially modern Hybrid LogicMoreover, five systematic subject fields are delineated: a) The concept of time, b) Hybrid logic, c) Temporal logic and metaphysics, d) Time, determinism, and existence, and e) Ethics and deontic logic. By blending historical research with current research on Prior's work, we intend to further demonstrate the importance of what Prior did, and to gain a deeper understanding of time in general and of the internal/external (A-series and B-series) distinction in particular. We will map Prior's work, systematizing and investigating texts in which he endeavours to explain just what he takes the difference to be. The project will explore, extend and integrate a range of technical tools, developed since Prior's death, which critically articulate his internal or tensed view of time, and also extend it in directions not considered by Prior. Project site: www.prior.aau.dkWebsite for Prior-Studies: www.priorstudies.orgA book series of 4-5 volumes will be published, in the main based on double-blind peer reviewed contributions to the conference series held under the auspices of this project. The first volume has appeared. See: http://aauforlag.dk/Shop/e-boeger/logic-and-philosophy-of-time-themes-from-prio.aspx
