My Ph.D. project is a sub-project within the larger project “To Use or Not to Use”, which sets out to investigate the many ways that activists in social movements around the world use digital technologies in contentious political activities. With a focus on the role of digital media platforms as facilitators and mediators of political activity my project will examine the contentious repertoire of current socialist politics in The United States emerging at the intersection of institutionalized electoral politics and decentralized social movements. With a background in social anthropology, and based on ethnographic fieldwork in New York City, I hope to contribute to the growing field of political ethnography in the study of social movements and political activism.
