Director of CIBS, Vincent F. Hendricks is interviewed in Kristeligt Dagblad about why debates on social medias sometimes get out of hand.

In the article he gives three reasons for the sometimes harsh tone online.

First he points out that the psychical aspect is gone - we can't read the body language and we can’t see if the counterpart is hurt or upset by the direction the conversation is taking.

Secondly the conversations online are not ‘one on one’. When commenting on a status feed maybe hundreds will read it too. Suddenly the debate is focusing on the comments and the status feed that started the conversation is forgotten.

Finally the debates online seem without obligations. Vincent states that many do not think that is particularly serious to behave badly online.
