Mission: Participation – critical understandings of the participation paradigm in cultural institutions and policies

The seminar is open for all.

Nowadays, cultural institutions and cultural policies in the Nordic countries are increasingly focusing on participation as means and as goal. Cultural institutions want users to participate – but how and why?

Participation is associated with democracy and deliberative ideals. At the same time, participation is organized and acted upon. In this seminar, we explore questions relating to participation in cultural institutions and cultural policies through presentations and discussions.

Senior researchers and PhD-students will present and discuss their work. Invited guest speakers are Bjarki Valtýsson, Associate professor, Department of Arts and Cultural Studies, University of Copenhagen and Nanna Kann-Rasmussen, Associate professor, Department of Information Studies, University of
Copenhagen.
