The Hungarian politician Csanad Szegedi is an anti-semitic Holocaust denier and is set to take over the leadership of the country's most extreme right-wing conservative party. Right until his grandmother reveals a lifelong secret that turns everything upside down – and makes him convert to Judaism. 'Keep Quiet' is a dramatic film full of twists about the paradoxes and self-contradictions of hatred and extremism, seen through three years of an extraordinary man's life. But the question is who the true Szegedi really is, and what awaits him after making a decision that suddenly turns friends into enemies – and vice versa. And can he even convince himself that he is still right? 'Keep Quiet' is a controversial and eye-opening film, which with sober lucidity tackles complex contradictions – and which takes us by surprise several times along the way.
After the film there will be a debate about anti-semitism in Hungary and Eastern Europe. Meet former Danish Chief Rabbi Bent Melchior, and sociologist and media expert Miklós Sükösd (Department of Media, Cognition and Communication, University of Copenhagen) who specializes in Eastern European media and politics. The debate will be moderated by Danish journalist Karin Larsen, who is specialized in Eastern European affairs, and have met and interviewed Csanad Szegedi.
